A Moroccan court has sentenced social media influencer Soukaina Janah, popularly known as “Soukaina Glamour,” to 10 months in prison for allegedly violating public decency laws during a social media livestream.
The Court of First Instance in Marrakech also fined her 500 Moroccan dirhams, equivalent to about KSh6,900, and barred her from using or appearing on social media platforms for three years.
The case followed an investigation by Moroccan authorities after videos from one of Janah’s livestream circulated widely online.
According to reports, the influencer was showcasing home wear during the livestream when she allegedly exposed part of her body, prompting public outrage and intervention by the prosecutor’s office.
Janah was arrested on August 12 at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca as she prepared to leave Morocco.
Her arrest followed digital surveillance by security officers, who had detected videos considered to be contrary to public decency circulating on social media.
Before her arrest, Janah apologised over the controversy but claimed some of the footage circulating online had been manipulated using artificial intelligence.
“I apologise to Moroccans,” Janah said in a statement issued before her arrest, while disputing the authenticity of some of the footage and alleging it had been manipulated using AI.
The latest sentence adds to the influencer’s previous encounters with the law.
In 2020, she was sentenced to two years in prison in connection with the high-profile “Hamza Mon BB” case, alongside other defendants. Her conviction was later upheld on appeal.
